Jiuzhaigou earthquake

A tourism site in northern Sichuan Province was hit by a strong earthquake at about 9.19pm local time on August 8. The deadly quake's toll continues to rise.

The Jiuzhaigou National Park near the epicentre of the quake hosted nearly 39,000 tourists on the day, according to local authorities.
Tremors were felt in Chengdu, 295km away, where about 14 million people live in its vicinity and Xian in neighbouring Shaanxi province, 495km away.
