The latest global survey by the United Nations and China’s foremost think tank, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, ranks the competitiveness of 1,007 cities with a population of more than 500,000.
Shenzhen is the highest ranked Chinese city. Hong Kong was sixth in 2013/14 and slips to 12th in the latest survey. The combined economic output of all the cities involved topped US$47 trillion in 2015, or 63.5 per cent of the world’s economy
