How Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponement affects Hong Kong

By MARCELO DUHALDE MARCH 23, 2020

The International Olympics Committee has put the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on hold for a year. The news came just as the picture of who would be in Hong Kong’s delegation was beginning to come into focus

Hong Kong could be on course to send its biggest delegation to the Games. The city was represented by 42 athletes at the London Olympics in 2012 and 37 travelled to Rio four years ago. Podium finishes may prove elusive, but Hong Kong is competitive in swimming, cycling and fencing – and that’s where our brightest medal prospects lie. Let’s see which of our athletes will represent Hong Kong, and which are close to securing their spot in Tokyo
