Race of endurance
Since 2008, the TNF 100 International Trail Running Series has attracted thousands of competitors eager to conquer some of the Asia-Pacific’s most challenging and scenic trails. Participants tackle rugged terrains and sometimes unpredictable weather, testing their stamina and mental resilience. In December 2024, the series makes its much-anticipated return to Hong Kong, a hotspot for trail running enthusiasts. Here’s a look at the races and runners.
The North Face 100 Hong Kong Trail Running Challenge 2024 will be held December 13-15.
This year’s event features the marquee 100km course and new 14km and 55km races. For the first time, a 100km relay race has been added, allowing mixed teams of four to take part.
Training for the trails
Mental and physical preparation are key to enhancing performance and reducing the risk of injury in endurance events like TNF 100. This includes hill work, strength training, as well as proper nutrition leading up to race day.
2023 race highlights
In the men’s 100km race, John Ray Onifa of the Philippines crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 11:57:16, securing the title. Second and third places were claimed by Guillaume Perrot and Arjun Rai Kulung, respectively.
In the women’s 100km race, Nepal’s Sunmaya Budha dominated the event with a time of 14:40:00, securing a commanding victory. Second place went to local star Cheung Man-yee, and third place to Angie Yan Chi-yee.
